Poetry Bus

The other man’s road is
always smoother.

In life I was taking my lumps,
When a fork in the road looked like trumps.
So I made the turn
And too late I learn;
From a distance you can’t see the bumps!

Poetry bus challenge. More poetry here.
Pic borrowed from
here.

  1. Detour, there's a muddy road ahead ..
Detour, paid no mind to what it said ..
Detour, oh these bitter things I find ..
Should have read that detour sign.

    Always loved that song .........

  9. Is 'taking my lumps' an expression where you are? Or is something of your own making?
    Just wondered.

  10. You are right often from a distance you can't see the bumps. If I had known, I wouldn't have chosen that direction....

  11. Rachel - we say 'taking my lumps' in the US too - which here at least means just dealing with whatever disaster you caused yourself.

You are so right about the bumps in the road being hidden from us. But they make us stronger, right? Or is that all hooey...

  14. Boy aint that the truth.....we always think the grass is greener on the other side...cause it is not under our own feet.....i have missed you Stafford...i thought maybe you were mad at me or something....you ask me for whom and what i voted for.....lets just say our voting machines are in different sides of the room...hope you do not hold it against me....i still think you are awesome! :-)

  15. Carrie. No, never mad. I always read posts but don't always have something to say! My question about voting was really a plea for people to think about how political parties' agendas fit the humanitarian ideals we express in our blogs.
