Herpes Zoster
Down in the dells and the dingles,
Its beauty still gives me the tingles.
But my old pink house
Is becoming a grouse,
With a serious case of the shingles.

Glad I got here in time.
ReplyDeleteAnnouncement: I made a decision not to try to reply to all your very welcome comments. With limited time available, I would rather follow you home to enjoy your writing than hang around mine. Hope my friends approve, but tell me what you think.
All is good! Nice piece! The shingles?
ReplyDeleteKiller title, too!! You are too much fun!
ReplyDelete(Absolutely! Follow us home. I made the decision not to reply to all my comments a long time ago. I figure everyone would much rather have a visit. Besides, most people don't come back a second time to read the follow-up comment, anyway.)
I love your writing, it's simply ... delightful!
ReplyDeleteand that sounds like a good decision to me :o)
It is definitely your choice, Stafford. I like the sometimes conversations that seem to occur from comments, but I have a whole lot more time to play with that than you do. And that may not be true in the coming months, who knows?. First things first, go with what you are comfortable with. I like reading your limmericks, as well as your more serious takes. And I also see the validity in your point of view.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I love the image of a house with shingles.
Elizabeth
I understant totally Stafford, I have been trying to do that as well. I do not have a computer at home...so i do what I can when I can...:-) Your title tops the cake...:-) Fabulous Magpie! :-)
ReplyDeleteI enjoy reading your writings!
ReplyDeleteNah. You have to respond to my comment!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou do what works for you Stafford. Replying to comments is quite time-consuming. I'm not sure most people read them anyway.
ReplyDeleteI love your poems. They always brighten my day!
This poem made me smile!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! What a funny little ditty!
ReplyDeleteIs it a dirty ditty I read between the lines - or am I becoming too pipes conscious?
ReplyDeleteI've posed a question but don't expect an answer Stafford. If i expected answers to every comment i made (which isn't many mind) I'd end up chasing my tail all week checking to see if I was loved and appreciated. I follow up a few key blogs where a real dialogue is going on for me. such as that demanding Grand Purl Baa!!!I agree with your policy. Power to the writers.
What a hoot this is! Love the dingle, shingles and the illustrative title!
ReplyDeleteAnother classic - ditto whats been said before its nice to receive feedback on what you hae written but I rarely follow comments that I have made, thats what Facebook is for.
ReplyDeleteThe title pulls a punch and I love the house with shingles, I may have one of those of my hands.
ReplyDeleteLove it Stafford. I think a communal comment is OK. There are so many wonderful things to read you'd be here all week if you replied to each comment.
ReplyDeleteThats is a very rude limerick Stafford (but I always thought limericks were meant to be rude so thats ok)I have a policy of only leaving comments on blogs that respond to comments (but I bend the rules for one - Stephen Fry - and might do the same for you, I suppose - lol).
ReplyDeleteHere I go, responding.
ReplyDeleteGrand Purl Baa. that is not a comment. That is a demand, so this is the response. That's all yer gettin'.
Now steve (little hat), I am deliciously insulted that you read a double (naughty) meaning into my (as usual) innocent little poem about a roof!
Clever from beginning to end..You did it!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this; a very witty collection of words which made me smile.
ReplyDeleteCJ xx
thanks for the smile ;)
ReplyDeleteExcellent!
ReplyDeleteWhatever you do is completely fine by me. I am always so behind in my comments though I try...but, of course, then I get behind in something else!
ReplyDeleteLoved your poetry and hated being reminded of my two bouts with shingles.
How unexpected - a fanciful limerick that fits so perfectly within the content of this image!
ReplyDeleteLove it!
My Non-Limerick Magpie poem.

I loved the rhyme and the simplicity by which it flowed. Good JOb!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds much like my 60 year old body, shingles included. arghhhh
ReplyDeletefun rhyme stafford...perhaps a bit of fixing up to be done...nice magpie!
ReplyDeleteYou, my good friend, are welcome to follow my moniker link to my blog.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, my humble comments here are made at a small cost repaid many times over by simply the potential for a visit from you. Of course you are also welcome to bring other enthusiastic friends for insightful comments and banter around my fortnightly topics.

Nice one. I always enjoy your Magpies.
ReplyDeleteAh so good it is to laugh, and laugh I most definitely did after reading this delightful poem. I saw the house in a whole new light. (I see in your profile that you are an "ex almost everything" . . . somehow I doubt that you were ever a real estate agent!)
ReplyDeleteStafford- I totally understand the issue of replying as I would rather read more of your works and everyone elses! I dont think any of us mind not hearing back...I imagine we are all busy devouring all the poems we can...cheers and I just howled at your piece this week! ooo you are such a clever devil!
ReplyDeleteI love this little rhyme, although shingles are definitely a pain, and I understand the time issue. While I do check back to read the replies, when I have time and can remember where I've been, I love the return visits even more. Right now I am responding to all comments, but I don't have multitudes per post at this point.
ReplyDeleteFull marks for this one...
ReplyDeleteKinda catchy. :-) Well done.
ReplyDeleteClever and so delightful. I love the dells and dingles. And great title.
ReplyDeleteyour writing seems so effortless
ReplyDeletethe sign of a genius
Yes, a large bit of alright this. Part
ReplyDeletehaiku, part limerick, all you;
with a pinch of Australian
wit between the lines, even
between the letters. I posted
this on my site for others to
enjoy. Keep after it. I
will be watching and reading.
Woonie reporting for duty = Sir! Back from an idyllic week on a peaceful lake in northern Minnesota (no email, no phone, no nothing but bliss)... and what is the first order of business? Checking in with my favorite writers. You ranking high on the list. Love your Magpie .. unique and funny like you. And then there's that serious insightful Stafford I love to read.. I don't get hung up on the comment, reply to comment, re-reply to comment thing (though I do admit to checking you out more than once per post)does that qualify as stalking? You make me smile inside and out ...... Must sleep, then unpack, then reconnect with World.
ReplyDeleteMore about that Woonie moniker later ...
Brilliant magpie.. Loved the title and the short but perfect description of the house...
ReplyDeleteYour creations never fail to miss the mark.. another wonderful piece
Too funny, although I'm starting to itch!
