Auntie Ella's Magpie

Auntie Ella.
I can hardly remember not having a car,
but I do remember Auntie Ella.
Looking back, I now wonder
what some of my dates must have thought.

Before leaving on a date
she always made me stand still and listen.
Then she would say:

“Be careful young man, and remember;
‘People in cars cause accidents.
Accidents in cars cause people’.”

It worked.
No accidents.
But there were some lovely close shaves!

Memories prompted by Magpie Tales.

  1. Good old Aunt Ella, wise advice!
I remember someone's mother used to say, I trust you humans, but I don't trust human nature.
They'd be shocked at todays teens!

  3. PS: Our first family car was a '32 Dodge .. my dad was still driving it in the 50s .. embarrassing for a teenager.

  4. Nice one, Stafford. As a youngster, life isn't much fun without a few close shaves.

  6. I've had plenty of close shaves in my 56 years, some good, some not so good, but you live and learn :-).

  7. You're wicked! For me it was a '67 Chevy Impala Sport Coupe.

  8. Okay, that's a saying I've never heard, and would love to have been witty enough to have thought up myself!

    Good one!
