Blogger Woes

Me with my laptop when I lived in Ur.

Eventually, after weeks of frustration not being able to comment on friends blogs, Blogger wouldn't let me into my own blog. So, I reset my e-mail and password and presto! All good.
But it did give me a scare, knowing most of my blogs exist only at Blogger so guess who has spent hours backing up blogs!

  3. Your nightmarish hours have been a concern of mine for a while. I try to periodically save them, but majority are just there in blogger space, tempting to leave me with the same fate.

  4. Just a note: many Bloggers have been experiencing problems, mostly with commenting. Try an alternative internet browser (it worked for me) - like here, I had to go to Google Chrome even though I was already signed into Blogger through IE in order to comment as myself.

  5. soulution solution! I find if I DONOT check the remember me box blogger lets me comment!
    go figure!
BUT I also got this helpful email here's the link
    http://pricelineblog.blogspot.com/
    and then this:
If commenting is problematic on other blogs, you have a problem with authentication, and cookie filtering. First, try a different login procedure.
    1. Login to Blogger using "www.blogger.com".
    2. Do not check "Remember me".
    Bonne chance mon ami!

  6. Not that many young people had laptops in Ur, right? Technologically, you were an 'early adopter' even then.

Sympathy here for your computer whatever woes. Humans are intended to walk upright for miles, labor outdoors reasonable hard for hours at a time, and have computers that 'just work'.

Some days, I would settle for just one of those -- any one

    !!

  7. Report:
All blogs saved, albeit dumped into one file called 'Blogsave', there to sift through if Blogger becomes terminal.
I did untick the 'remember me' box and it now remembers me... must be a woman running that!
I will keep the 'change browser' option in mind too. And QwkDrw, I wholeheartedly agree.

  8. Hi Stafford

I posted a partial solution the other day: if the blog has a 'pop up' comment box, I find my Idenity is offered to me as a choice - if I've visited before. Otherwise I use name/url/anon option. If neither is available, I remain mute.

I have also been frozen out of blogger which is particularly difficult for me as all the pages then turn to Arabic. Similarly, if I use my gmail account to send an email, I get closed down and the fun police want my phone number to re-instate me, which I am very reluctant to give them. This is why I never mention the coutry or town I live in and always use a pseudonym. Not a problem for you in Oz I reckon.

There is also a comment posted under 'More Blogger Complaints' that gives detailed instructions to 'fix' the login problem. Sadly they didn't quite work for me as there was more Arabic I couldn't follow.

    Best of luck with it,
    Isabel

  9. Perhaps we could start a temporary campaign that all bloggers use a pop up comment format for the time being?

  10. OMG, Isabel! Or should that be Allah be praised... Arabic no less. Well, how do WE know Blogger isn't being run out of Palestine?

  11. Hate to say "Glad I'm not the only one" but I am.

Now I seem to have cracked it (or maybe Blogger has finally fixed itself?)

I take back that last comment

  12. One of the simplest ways to back up your blog, is to export (under 'settings') regularly. Keep the downloaded xml file somewhere safe. If Blogger goes ping, you can simply import the file and reinstate your blog. You can even import it into Wordpress, if you're thoroughly fed up.

  13. it is the local google that jumps in over my google .au home page - not Palestine, Q - something (not many candidates)

I loaded Firefox a few months ago but I can't find the link to change it to English, so it is totally useless to me ...

  15. Hummmm....since I am such a techno-peasant, I'm not sure what to do?

  16. And finally, I recommend that good old editor's fallback: print out every day's work! I keep a 'book file', with all my blog entries filed away day by day, as well as the e-backups of the blog. That way, at least I know my 'words of wisdom' are there for future perusal, in the event all else fails. When working as a professional editor in a previous life, I'm afraid I kept printed copies of all stages of every manuscript, just because old habits and trainings die hard. But lost files die even harder.

  17. Glad you got your blogger issues straightened out. I know it can be frustrating, and scary to think you might lose all your hard work.

  22. Oh dear...I do not print out my blog poetry. However, I do have my poetry from the 80s and 90s which I consider my best work. But I do the unremember me stuff. And for good measure, I register my comments three times and the weird writing stuff turns up - hear the sigh of relief ...

I'd better print my poetry. Thanks Stafford. Oohhhh, all that paper again...

  23. Good advice, Stafford! And I guess more people, particularly new bloggers, would "back up" their blog(s) regularly if Blogger didn't call the process "exporting" - which means nothing more than copying your blog to your desktop, and probably scares the hell out of beginners!

And thanks for the tip about resetting your eMail. Blogger hasn't yet ill-treated me . . but no doubt one day will.

  24. Hmmmmm. Another blogging friend had the same problem two weeks ago. I am reading many of these comments and realize that I have been blogging on a gamble...must be more diligent. What a hassle to deal with all this stuff when all we want to do is be creative and social!

  26. Hey there this is kind of of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG
editors or if you have to manually code with HTML.
I'm starting a blog soon but have no coding skills so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!

so I guess I'll just sum it up what I had written and say, I'm thoroughly enjoying your
blog. I as well am an aspiring blog writer but I'm still new to the whole thing. Do you have any helpful hints for first-time blog writers? I'd certainly appreciate it.
