Bang bang! You're alive!.

Fireworks.

No longer innocent of terror,
And despite loss of trust,
Fake machine gun bursts
Bring laughter and joy.

Safe and joyful 4th of July!

  3. When my boys were small, those toy machine gun rat-a-tat-tats made me cringe. They just laughed. So beautifully written.

  6. I sensed a little 9/11 in there...? "no longer innocent of terror and despite loss of trust"

...That even though terrorism hit home for our generations, we are blessed to still have our freedoms that allow our youth to continue to grow up with "laughter and joy." We persevered as one nation...strong and resilient! Something worth celebrating! Great Magpie!

  17. It was a quiet 4th for me. Even around here, I heard few fireworks. Not sure why it was such a noiseless day. Perhaps everyone is on vacation.

  21. Sadly, some little boys playing war with toy guns grow up to make war with real ones.

  22. Stafford Ray,
There'll always be war, and nations will rise and fall and the citizens will always celebrate. It's the way of things.
    Nice Magpie!

  23. Dear Stafford Ray: Yes, we are no longer "innocent" as to the material which makes "Fireworks"! Great Haiku piece. Very observant and succinct with masterful wordsmithery. Excellent!
