Remember this room,
when kindling snapped
and hissed in the grate?
Remember the girl
that was you,
so eager to please?
Remember the man
who stacked the wood,
then sat by you?
Remember the child
mewing, crawling,
trusting, so loved?
It all looked smaller then,
filled with love and warmth,
and my Harley Davidson.

Nice and warm withn a cherry at the bottom!
ReplyDeleteIt can be such a wonderful feeling to go back the long winding road of what had been. Something we would not want to trade for anything else including the joys of the Harley!
ReplyDeleteHank
you had a harley in that room....bet that did not make the missus happy...smiles....yep its def go the wide open feel now...
ReplyDeleteMussus not happy? Anybody should be happy near a Harley!
DeleteI was felling nostalgic until the very end! The Harley wouldn't fit in that room! Well...maybe it would, in a corner, out of the way:)
ReplyDeleteYvonne! Wash your mouth out! Harley's take Pride of Place!
DeleteWe all have our growling , screeching, vibrating, fluid dripping crosses to bear !
ReplyDeleteAre you still talking about my Harley or the baby?
Delete... awwwwwwwww, just when I thought we were going to get all cozy and cuddly!
ReplyDeleteha! gotcha!
DeleteNice :)
ReplyDeleteThat's the trouble with Harleys - they fill a room.
ReplyDeleteThey fill any space made available to them, including a road.
DeleteI read along so sweetly...then squawked at the end...hey I love your new pic!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tess, glad it burst your bubble!
DeleteNice poem. Nice profile picture. Nice guy.
ReplyDeleteNice guys ride Harleys.
DeleteI bet it wasn't only the kindling that snapped and hissed when she knew she was sharing the room with....a Harley Davidson?
ReplyDeleteYou should know. You were there weren't you?
DeleteYes you are so right it did look smaller then, what with such an enormous Harley in the room! Ha! Ha! great write!
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen, in reality, everything looks smaller now.
Deleteand here I thought we were going to see the softer side of you
ReplyDelete....glad the room is remembered as larger...or is it?
Ha! And spoil my reputation!?
DeleteWhat beautiful memories you have Stafford! Love your new picture! :-)
ReplyDeleteNo Carrie, not good memories, I have never had a Harley.
DeleteBravo! Excellent progression of thought !!!
ReplyDeleteActually Donald, I thought it was very shallow and silly, but I see there is hope for me yet!
DeleteI used to ride on my hubby's Yamaha when we were dating from midnight to morning - oh, we were so young (he was SO young) and poor - and it felt like a Harley!
ReplyDeleteAh yes . . . the Harley! Where is it now? Great read, which is "tongue in cheek" rather than "shallow and silly", surely.? (Try saying shallow and silly, surely after 3 or 4 pints.)
ReplyDeleteLovely stuff - not shallow and silly at all.
ReplyDeleteLove the new pic.
Anna :o]
ah yes- there was a time when Russell wanted his BSA Goldstar in the living rom....I said nothing- and he thought better of it.
ReplyDeleteLovely poem taking me back to the beginning.
Nice new pic too!
